Drop down menu
the command bar (second horizontal bar at the top of the program) gives a choice of commands such as File, Edit, View etc. If you select one of these commands a list of further possible actions appears.

File>action
File>Action is short-hand for: select File (on the command bar at the top of the page), after which a drop down menu appears, from which you select Action. Sometimes selecting Action releases a further choice so that you can get a command such as File>Choice>Action

Drop down list
a drop down list consists of a white horizontal space with a small downward pointing arrow to its right. Select the arrow and a list drops down (hence the name). Move the cursor over one of the items in this list and click once to select. A good example of a drop down list is where you choose your font

Navigate
use the mouse to select different folders till you find the file you are looking for.

======== Screen parts ==========

Name Bar
At the top of the window will be the name bar with the name of the program followed by the name of the file on which you are working

Menu Bar
Below the Name Bar will be the menu bar (also called the command bar)with drop down menus ( see 15 above) such as File, Edit, View etc.

Icon Bar and Icons
The icon bar is the third bar down, with lots of icons. Icons are little pictures of programs or actions that you can choose. If you point the cursor at the icon and keep it there for two or three seconds it will tell you the name of the icon. In the text we will mention icons such as the {Link} icon

Design Area
This is the largest part of the screen, below the icon bar and above the tab bar. It is where you place pages and objects to see how your page will look
Tab Bar
Below the Design Area is a horizontal line of tabs which are context sensitive, i.e. the names of the tabs will vary according to which type of object you select. A typical tab is shown as {Object} tab

Parameter panel
The parameter panel is the area below the tab bar at the foot of the screen where you choose your parameters ("on" or "off") or choose values (135 or 142) so as to define the parameters of your objects

Side slide bar
The vertical bar to the right of the window or mini-window which allows you to look at parts of the page hidden below or above the window. There will be slider which allows you to move rapidly to parts of the screen hidden above or below the window

Close button
At the top right there is a square red button with a white cross. Select (see 04 above) this and the program will end. Usually you will be asked to save first

Resize
To the left of the Close button will be a button with two little squares. Select this and you can then resize the window in which the program sits to suit your requirements, by moving the cursor to any edge; the cursor changes to a double-headed arrow and now you can drag the side to make it smaller or bigger. Select the resize button once again and the screen is full-size once more

Bar button
The third button at the top right brings the window down to the bottom bar; the program is not closed but sits there quietly waiting till you press the name of the program or file on the bottom bar

Radio button
These will usually be two or more round buttons in one of which will be a black dot. You can select only one of the buttons; if you select any one button, the others become white

Tick box
These are square boxes. If they are empty, and you select the box, a tick mark will appear, which means that you have chosen to switch some part of the program to ON. If there is already a tick mark, and you select the box, the tick mark disappears, and you switch some part of the program OFF
